Moved by the scenes of pain and suffering displayed in the media on September 11, 2001, and never wanting the tragic day to be forgotten, in December of 2001, Barb Jack, the creator/chairwoman of the WTC 9/11 PEN-T MEMORIALS, INC., set a goal to have erected a WTC 9/11 Memorial
in each state in the USA and DC. Another individual who was also part of the
foundation of the project was Wayne Winter. In May of 2002, Paul VanderHeyden, joined the committee as building project manager in 2004. Thanks to the efforts of a very active committee, the
Green Bay Mayor: Jim Schmidt, park committee and council members, and very generous donors,
the memorial opened on June 1, 2005. The WTC 9/11 PEN-T memorial stands 34
feet high and was dedicated in Green Bay, Wisconsin. During the afternoon ceremony,
there was a USAF flyover, release of 21 white doves, music by the Vic
Ferrari band, and special guest speakers that included Firefighter Joe
Torrillo, Search and Rescue Specialist: Christopher Lyons. Both worked
at the 9/11 disaster, and Representing the Pentagon: Abraham Scott (who lost
his wife during the attacks). Shortly, thereafter, both
Mr. Torrillo and Mr. Lyons joined the WTC 9/11 Pen-T committee. |
